I’ve been journaling since I was 10. I don’t do it every day (though I probably should), but it’s my #1 way to get clarity.

For me, I have to give journal writing priority status, or it will fall to the wayside even though it's one of the most helpful things I can do daily! However, it competes with numerous other priorities and love to-dos. Walk first. Meditate first. Exercise first. Write first, etc. To look forward to my day and get out of bed, I first give myself several hours of 'me time'. What would I love to do and who would I love to be? And that's where I start, regardless of what's on fire around me. From 4 AM-9 AM, I'm living the 'writer life.' My ideal life. What to do first with so many good and vital choices? I resist detailed time blocking (which will come later in the day) and instead let my body and mind find their own flow. And here I am connecting on Substack. It wasn't even in the lineup, but I trust that my deeper self (perhaps my future self, or God, or the Universe, or even my deceased father) sends a gentle whisper and sometimes an aggressive push to do the next best thing that I need right then. Then, and only then, does every morning start to feel like Christmas morning, with an excited eagerness to get up and start the day!

That’s exactly how I start my days! I love it.
