About North of Normal
North of Normal is where I keep notes from a life that never fit the usual categories.
These are short pieces about paying attention—objects, conversations, work, family, and the ordinary moments that quietly shape us. Some notes are about entrepreneurship and accountability. Others are about starting over later than planned. Many are about noticing what I used to rush past.
I write things down so they’re real now—and so they might still be real years from now. Writing helps me move forward with intention, look back with a little more clarity, and occasionally find humor where it’s least expected.
Much of this writing is addressed to myself: the younger version who was always waiting for a good enough reason to begin, and the future one who already knows what mattered.
If you’re the kind of reader who doesn’t mind listening in—thinking alongside, smiling at the edges—you’re welcome here.
You might want a notebook.
